Day 6-to Tibet

It was an earlier morning than usual as we had to leave our hotel by 6 to catch the one flight to Lhasa that runs each day. It was about a 3 hour flight and they served us a nice second breakfast. Once we arrived, we gathered our bags but I did notice the immediate effects of being at a very high altitude.  Mostly, I felt a little loopy. We were taken to a home of a traditional middle-class family. It was very large compared to what we saw in Beijing.  They had their own cow/yak hybrids where they obtained their milk, made their own butter and used dried yak dung to fuel their oven for cooking!  They had all of the modern conveniences such as big screen tv, modem for their WiFi and microwave. We also noticed a ring around the sun, which Dave confirmed was called a Sun Dog. Interesting!

After another lazy Susan lunch, we headed to the hotel for rest. No further plans for this day as they knew people must acclimate. And rest we did!  Dad and I got to the room and did not leave. We slept from about 4pm until 5am the next morning. Much needed. I feel much better, as I had developed a pretty bad headache. But, I did notice this morning what a great view of the Potala Palace we have from our room. After breakfast, I also wandered around the hotel a bit to see if I could find my way to  the courtyard I could see from my window. I found it and got even more great shots. We’re meeting the group in about 15 minutes for our daily tour.
