Well, today’s the day! This has been a long time coming, and it’s finally here! It started as an early morning-dad and I left the house at 3:45am and made it to the airport with plenty of time for our 7:20 flight from Houston to Detroit. We flew first class, but it was a very small plane, so roomy, not not too fancy. They were very attentive though. We got into Detroit at about 10:45 Eastern time and had lots of time to find our gate for our connecting flight to Beijing, leaving at 2:02. They did let us board 55 minutes before the flight leaves. So we had a couple hours to spend at the Delta Sky Club, which was complementary due to our priority seating on the plane. It was good-they had a nice buffet with lots of options. We have boarded our next flight and are getting accustomed to our swanky accommodations! I feel like I’ve got my own personal hotel room on this plane. Nice!!

The fed us well. We arrived on time at about 2:40pm local time. We met our tour guide, Ray, and a portion of our tour group and were shuttled to our hotel for the next 2-3 nights. Ray explained that there are about 22 million people in Beijing and the cost of living is high. Very few single family homes. They all live in high rises, and the price per square foot is approximately $1000. Woof!
We did venture out for an authentic Chinese dinner. It was a huge learning curve, but we didn’t get run over and the food was different, yet tasty ( and cheap!!). The four of us ate for about 180 Yaun, which was about $26!
